Spring Maintenance – Time to Hit That “To-Do” List!

Posted on April 9, 2012 in Electric, General, Plumbing

It has been said that winter passes slowly … unless you have a balloon payment due in April. One other thing makes time fly; a long to-do list. One minute you’re thinking you’ve got all spring and summer and the next thing you know, the weather is turning cold again. Let’s get started on some of those simple, but important, maintenance projects now.

Something that can cause a real pain when ignored is a washer hose. Yep, those hoses that connect to your washing machine. You probably have never thought of them. They can get old and brittle so its a good idea to change them now while they’re still working. Once they start to leak, you’ll wish you had thought ahead.

While we’re in the laundry area, how about that dryer?  It can collect lint as it is designed to but it can also create lint where you don’t want it. For fire safety reasons, you might want to vacuum behind the dryer. Check the vent too. It might be time for a replacement.

How about all those light bulbs in the “I never think about that one” areas?
Front porch, back porch, garage, shed, flood lights, security lights, basement, pump house, dog house, (ok, maybe that one was a stretch) but you know the ones. If you haven’t been outside much in the winter, you haven’t noticed if they are out. Now, with spring rolling in, you’ll really need those lights. Let’s make sure we’ve got good bulbs in all of them.

That thing about “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”? That’s true. Stop by and we’ll help you do some preventing!

Going “down the drain” is a good thing!

Posted on December 14, 2011 in Electric, Plumbing

Convenience inventions are only convenient when they work.

If you have a garbage disposal, you know how convenient they can be. Whisking food items down the drain in seconds when you’re cleaning up after all the holiday (or any other) meal.

But, if your disposal isn’t working as well as it once did, it can cause drains to work slowly and eventually plug up. Often times with years of wear, disposals will begin to be so loud you can’t even hear uncle Harry yelling at the football game on TV.

Replacing a disposal is not a big deal. We’ve helped tons of do-it-yourselfers save money and improve the performance (and volume) of their disposals. If you don’t have one, we can even walk you through the process of installing a disposal.

The new Evergrind disposal by Insinkerator is a top quality machine that can make your life a lot easier. Additionally it would make it much easier to hear what your family members are yelling at the TV. Hopefully you’ll see that as a plus.

Hot Water Dispensers – Making Life Easy!

Posted on November 28, 2011 in Electric, Plumbing

Depending on your age, you may find this hard to believe; BUT, there was a time when the only way you could change the channel on your TV was to get up, walk to the set, spin a knob to the next channel to see what was there. If it wasn’t what you liked you had to stand there clicking the channel dial until you found something you DID like. Here’s the part younger folks might find hard to believe; it was just accepted as being the way it is. Some devices are like that. The old way seems ok until you try the new one for a while and then you can’t imagine going back.

Come in to a Grover Electric and Plumbing Supply and get yourself a hot water dispenser. You’ll soon feel like the only person on the block with a TV remote. It’s one of those “What did we do before we had this thing?” kind of devices. Want some tea? Hot water for a recipe? Some instant oatmeal or hot chocolate? Push a button and there it is!

As to installing your hot water dispenser, it’s not difficult and we can walk you through the process. It’s what we do. We help do-it-yourselfers be do-it-yourselfers. Sometimes we help people who aren’t do-it-yourselfers find out they can do a lot of things themselves anyway.

Don’t think you need a hot water dispenser? Spend a week changing channels manually … it might change your mind!
